The city of Antigua Guatemala is known as one of the three most beautiful cities of the Spanish Indies. Today, Antigua is one of the most popular and best recognized cities in Latin America as a destination.
Visitors are overwhelmed with Antigua’s magical touch and what it has to offer to its visitors; such as ruins of its former colonial grandeur, parks, plazas, craft markets, many shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. For this and many other reasons, Antigua Guatemala was proclaimed a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979.
San Mateo is conveniently located at the end of the descent of Las Cañas, short minutes from the artistic and cultural legacy of the city of Antigua. Situated at the top of a private hill and surrounded by the river Pensativo, San Mateo frames beautiful views from the Valley of Antigua; the superb views of the volcanoes Agua, Fuego and Acatenango, the Piñon Hill and three hundred sixty degrees views of its regal mountains and vegetation. Bordered by more than sixty hectares of green areas, San Mateo is an urban oasis within the local fauna and flora. The project was designed following the principles of traditional colonial architecture, maintaining the values that today make Antigua Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Its location, exclusivity and different regions, make San Mateo a project with unique identity. The cobblestone streets, quaint shopping areas, pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths complete a safe and harmonious lifestyle, thus emphasizing the colonial neighborhood feeling to both live and rest.San Mateo is made up of four regions, La Provincia, the Pueblito, the Quintas and the Villas; Because the distinct topography of the site, each of these regions have an single quality and space, thus maintaining the privacy and security different areas without losing fluidity and interconnectedness between all of them.
